Assistant Manager/Product Consultant Position Description


The Assistant Manager/Product Consultant position is a hybrid between the Product Consultant and the Manager positions.  This position will predominantly serve in the role of a Product Consultant, but will be trained as a Manager in order to provide coverage and assume the Manager responsibilities whenever the Manager is off duty.  The successful candidate will be, above all else, honest, reliable and punctual.  They will possess leadership skills, outstanding customer service skills, strong work ethic, ability to be effective in a fast-paced work environment, and exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail. This is a Management position that will report directly to the Manager.


Education Required

  • 2+ years post-secondary education in a related field required

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred


Work Experience Required

  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in a fast-paced client-service intensive industry – hospitality, retail, medical, restaurant or other customer/patient facing operation is preferred

  • Work history showing progressive responsibility, willingness to accept, lead, and complete additional projects or challenges is preferred

  • Management experience is preferred

  • Interest in cannabis, health, and wellness

  • Arithmetic/math skills necessary for basic inventory and cash management


  • Demonstrate proactivity, flexibility, adaptability and multi-tasking

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate ethical conduct



  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to effectively plan, prioritize and focus

  • Office equipment operation skills – comfortable using computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and telephone systems

  • Thorough understanding of medical cannabis laws in the state of Hawaii

  • Familiarity with history and varieties of medical marijuana preferred

  • Able to respond to occasional off-hour calls (e.g. alarm goes off at night)


Physical Requirements

  • Extended time standing, walking, bending, and reaching


  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds for a distance of 100 feet

  • Hawaii state resident

  • Must pass a background check (state mandated) – no felonies

Product Consultant Duties and Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the product consultant/assistant manager include interacting with and educating patients about medical cannabis options, completing sales transactions, record-keeping in POS software, assisting with inventory and cash management, and helping to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming facility inside and out.

  • Assists patients in selecting medical cannabis products by providing education about safe dosage and other aspects of medical cannabis

  • Completes sales transactions effectively and accurately using dispensary software

  • Refers patients to Talk Medicine platform when conversations come up around symptoms and conditions

  • Maintains patient records in compliance with State law and Hawaiian Ethos confidentiality policies

  • Answers questions from patients and others 
about Hawaii state cannabis laws and Hawaiian Ethos

  • Assists Manager with inventory and cash management, daily and weekly

  • Maintains a clean, safe, welcoming environment inside and outside the facility

  • Other duties may be assigned by the Manager if/as needed 



Assistant Manager Duties and Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Assistant Manager is to oversee daily operations of the Hawaiian Ethos retail dispensary location when the Manager is off duty.

  • Opening store—show up on time, confirm inventory, ensure store is clean/organized/stocked, ensure all systems are working and staff is ready for the day

  • Closing store—close out and balance all registers, run inventory, secure stock, secure the premises

  • Manage store cleaning and basic maintenance

  • Know, follow, and enforce all rules and regulations set forth by the state of Hawaii to ensure that the store is operating in compliance and could pass a Department of Health inspection at any time

  • Manage patient and community relations

  • Manage/schedule community events on site (e.g. support groups, yoga, information sessions, etc.)

  • Be proficient in all other dispensary roles (intake specialist, product consultant) to be able to manage staff and fill in as necessary

  • Manage staff break schedules to ensure adequate staffing is available to meet patient needs whenever on duty

  • Hold team meetings (daily team meeting prior to opening to review staffing, make announcements, problem-solve any issues, set goals)

  • Oversee sales process (make sure that there is adequate product available, ensure that the cannabis nearest to expiration is sold first/adequately discounted, make sure staff know enough about products to sell them, etc.)

  • Interact with patients and monitor staff interactions with patients (manage patient flow, ensure adequate staffing to meet patient needs, ensure all staff are trained to help patients appropriately, be available to assist with any ‘difficult’ patients or crisis scenarios)
